How to add a bot to a group?

What this guide covers​

Helps group owners or admins add the DeBox AI Assistant (platform AI bot) to a group chat, or batch-add from the Bot profile to groups you manage.

This guide does not cover:

  • Group Manager / Bot Butler (welcome messages, moderation, etc.) → see How to use Group Manager?
  • Bot Mother / bot management (create custom bots) → a different product from adding AI Assistant to a group

Requirements and before you start​

  • The target group must show AI Assistant in Chat Settings. Common in Clubs, small groups, etc.; Token / NFT DAO-type groups may not show this item.
  • Add / Remove requires you to be an admin (MOD) or have management permissions such as Builder (follow page validation). Regular members can usually open the list but cannot add.
  • All group members can try opening the AI Assistant list; you receive a prompt if you lack permission to act.

Steps​

  1. Open the target group chat.
  2. Go to Chat Settings.
  3. Tap AI Assistant.
  4. Find the target bot in the list:
    • Not in group: tap Add.
    • Already in group and you have permission: you can tap Remove.
    • Already in group but you lack permission: may show Added and cannot remove.
  5. If you lack permission to add, Android often shows a prompt similar to: "Adding a bot requires MOD permissions. Contact a community MOD for help" (iOS may say "Admin"—follow your device).

Method 2: Add to groups I manage from the AI Bot profile​

  1. Open an AI Bot user profile (you can also browse from the AI Assistant directory on the Friends page first).
  2. Tap more in the top-right corner and choose Add to Group.
  3. In the Add to Groups I Manage dialog, select one or more groups.
  4. Tap Confirm Add.
  5. On success, you may see a prompt such as "Submitted successfully."

The Friends-related page may have a global AI Assistant directory for browsing bots; to actually add a bot to a group, still use Method 1 or 2 above.

FAQ​

No "AI Assistant" in Chat Settings?​

The group type may be a Token / NFT DAO group, or the entry name may differ in your version. Confirm the group type or follow the live menu.

What's the difference between "AI Assistant" and "Group Manager"?​

Can regular members add bots?​

Usually not. An admin (MOD) or an account with the required management permissions must perform the action.

See How to use Group Manager?. Whether Android Chat Settings shows a Group Manager entry depends on your device; iOS settings often have a separate Group Manager item.
