How to manage group members and permissions?

What this guide covers

Helps group owners, admins (MOD), or Builders with common member and permission management: invite/remove members, role management, mute all / mute individuals, message frequency, in-group friend restrictions, join conditions, and more.

Requirements and before you start

  • Open Chat Settings in the target group. Most management items are visible or editable only to admins / group owner / Builder.
  • Small groups, Clubs, and DAOs (Token / NFT holding groups, etc.) differ in capabilities: for example, DAO settings pages usually have no remove-member entry, and mute-all or add-friend restrictions may appear only in small groups / Clubs.
  • The UI often uses "Admin" in Chinese; some prompts say "MOD"—they mean the same thing.

Steps

1. View members

  1. Open the group chat → Chat Settings.
  2. View the avatar grid in the members area.
  3. For the full list, tap View more to open Member List.

2. Invite new members

  1. Tap the invite (plus) entry in the members area.
  2. Go to Invite New Members, select contacts, then tap Done.
  3. On success, you may see a prompt such as "Your invitation notification has been sent."
Invite limits

Invite flows may have a per-batch limit (for example, a prompt about a maximum number of invites); follow the current page prompt.

3. Remove members (small group / Club)

  1. Tap the remove entry in the members area (common in admin view for small groups, Clubs, etc.; DAOs usually only allow invites).
  2. Go to Remove Members, select members, and confirm. Confirmation copy is similar to: "Remove member: xxx?"
  3. Notes:
    • You cannot remove the group owner;
    • Non-owner admins usually cannot remove other admins.

4. Member role management (including admins)

A standalone Set Admin menu item may no longer be a top-level entry. Use:

  1. Chat SettingsMember Role Management (subtitle often reads "Manage or customize member roles").
  2. Tap an existing role (such as Mod) to manage members under that role.
  3. When needed, + Add Role or use Edit / Save in the top-right corner.
  4. Before deleting a custom role, the page warns that members will lose that role.

5. Mute all (small group / Club)

  1. As an admin, find the Mute All switch in Chat Settings.
  2. When enabled, regular members are restricted from sending messages per product rules (follow the page).
  3. DAO-type groups usually do not show this item.

6. Mute a member

  1. As an admin or Builder, open the target member's profile (you must be able to open the profile page).
  2. Tap Mute.
  3. On the Mute Duration page, choose a duration (common options include 10 minutes, 1 hour, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 15 days, 30 days, etc.—follow the page).
  4. Tap Confirm.
  5. When already muted, you can unmute per the prompt (confirmation copy is similar to "Unmute this member?").

Product summary: mute permissions are for admins; muted users cannot send messages or use red packets in that group; if muted in multiple groups, the account may enter a silent state (see the mute page for details).

7. Message frequency

  1. Chat SettingsMessage Frequency.
  2. Choose a limit tier (options are usually configured by the server—do not memorize specific seconds).
  3. Tap Save.
  4. Summary: except admins (and usually Builders in DAOs), other members are subject to frequency limits.

8. In-group add-friend restriction (small group / Club)

  1. As an admin, open In-Group Add-Friend Restriction.
  2. When enabled: regular members usually cannot add each other as friends; group owner/admins are unaffected.
  3. When enabled, regular members may also be restricted from viewing others' profiles (for example, a prompt that the group owner has disabled viewing profiles in the group).

9. Join settings (small group / Club, etc.)

  1. Chat SettingsJoin Settings (subtitle often reads "Set conditions for members to join").
  2. Choose as needed, for example: anyone can join, admin review, auto verification (holdings, etc.), paid join, total asset threshold, and more (options depend on the page).
  3. Only admins can change these; regular members may not be able to save.
  • New member join notification: admins/Builders can toggle.
  • Auto-delete / scheduled chat history destruction: admins or Builders can configure.
  • Group capacity: small groups/Clubs may offer expansion via BOX/USDT (links to an info page).
  • Upgrade to Club: visible only to small-group owners; see How to create a DeBox group?.

FAQ

Why can't I remove members in a DAO group?

Token / NFT DAO groups usually do not provide a remove-member entry in settings; product docs also note admins can mute, block, etc., but cannot remove users. Use mute and other management tools instead.

Can regular members change these settings?

Most switches and role management are available only to admins/group owner/Builder. Regular members can usually view only part of the information.

How does Group Manager relate to muting?

Group Manager focuses on welcome messages, keyword moderation, clearing inactive members, and other automated operations; mute all / mute member are native capabilities in Chat Settings and member profiles. See How to use Group Manager?.
